Effluent Treatment Plant

Reverse Osmosis Plant

Overview

Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) are designed to treat industrial wastewater before it is discharged to the environment or reused within the facility. Untreated industrial effluent contains harmful pollutants — heavy metals, toxic chemicals, high BOD/COD, suspended solids and colour — that can cause serious damage to water bodies, soil and human health. GNS designs, fabricates, erects, operates and maintains ETPs that ensure compliance with CPCB / SPCB discharge standards.

How It Works

Industrial effluent passes through a series of physical, chemical and biological treatment stages that progressively reduce pollutant concentrations to safe levels. The specific treatment train is designed based on the nature and volume of effluent generated by the industry.

Treatment Stages

Primary Treatment (Physical & Chemical)

  • Screening — removal of large solids
  • Equalisation tank — flow and load balancing
  • Oil & Grease trap — removal of floating oils
  • Coagulation — addition of alum / ferric chloride to destabilise colloids
  • Flocculation — gentle mixing to form large settleable flocs
  • Primary clarifier / Tube settler — gravity separation of flocs and sludge
  • pH correction — lime or acid dosing

Secondary Treatment (Biological)

  • Aeration tank with diffused or surface aeration
  • Activated sludge process / MBBR / SBR for BOD and COD reduction
  • Secondary clarifier for biomass separation

Tertiary Treatment (Polishing)

  • Sand filtration and activated carbon filtration
  • Chemical oxidation (Fenton's reagent, ozone) for colour and refractory COD
  • UV disinfection
  • Reverse osmosis for ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge)

Sludge Treatment

  • Sludge thickener
  • Filter press or centrifuge for sludge dewatering
  • Sludge cake disposal to approved TSDF
